The FIRST (Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams) Conference, renowned for fostering international cooperation and coordination in Cybersecurity, provided an invaluable platform for CERT Vanuatu to engage with over 600 teams from more than 100 nations[1]. The NatCSIRT Meeting, held immediately after the FIRST Conference, focused on national-level cybersecurity strategies and collaboration.[2] The topics covered consist of traditional topics like network traffic monitoring and malware analysis case studies but also included new topics on large language models (LLMs), Ransomware Investigations, Digital and mobile forensics, and Emergency Response and Communication case studies.
A highlight of CERT Vanuatu’s participation was its involvement in the panel discussion session titled “Building the Foundations of a National CSIRT – Internal Design and External Cooperation.” This session addressed critical aspects of establishing and maintaining a robust national Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT), emphasizing the importance of internal structure and external partnerships.
CERT Vanuatu’s inclusion in this panel underscores its commitment to enhancing national cybersecurity capabilities and fostering international cooperation. By sharing insights and experiences, CERT Vanuatu aims to contribute to the global effort to improve cybersecurity resilience and response strategies.
The Pillar Five (5) of the National Security Strategy of Vanuatu is ‘Cyber Security’ thus, CERT Vanuatu is dedicated to improving the cybersecurity posture of Vanuatu. This is achieved by providing Incident Response Services, Cyber-threat Intelligence, Cybersecurity awareness, and fostering collaboration with national and international partners.
